What goes in,
and how it is poured

The grounds, the resin, the gold leaf and the wood, the sizes and the lead times, and the making from the first drawing to the crinkle-paper box.

A Glazera piece is pigment, glitter, pearl, gold leaf and resin, or paint on a real tree slice, built up in layers and sealed under one clear flood that cures glass-hard and is polished to a mirror gloss. Panels are 30 × 30 or 50 × 50 cm, the ornament 10 cm, wood slices 30 or 50 cm across.

The Glazera bench: a golden retriever panel mid-pour, a gloved hand tipping clear resin over it, cups of teal, pearl and gold pigment, a dish of gold leaf, a heat torch and a level around it

From photograph to box

  1. The drawing

You upload a photograph, or describe what you want, and Tedooo's design technology draws it as a resin portrait in about a minute. Try different words, another background or another photo and draw once more, free, until one is right.

  2. The approval

The design you approve is what we pour, so approval comes first and payment second. Your card is untouched until Tedooo's checkout, and the resin stays in its bottles until the payment clears. Then the bench compares the approved design with your photograph before mixing.

  3. The ground

Glitter and gold leaf are laid into the first pours of a glitter panel; the mother-of-pearl or the opal shimmer you chose is poured for a pearl panel; the ornament's tinted resin is set in its round; a wood slice is sanded to the grain with the bark edge left on.

  4. The portrait

On the panels and the ornament the portrait is built up in fine layers of tinted resin, each layer setting before the next, the eyes last. On the wood slice it is painted in raised colour straight onto the grain, with the flowers of the design around it.

  5. The clear flood

One clear pour goes over the whole piece and is left to cure glass-hard. On the ornament it is domed over the face of the disc; on the wood slice it runs over the bark edge too. It is the slowest stage and the one that gives the piece its depth.

  6. The polish and the fittings

The cured surface is polished by hand to a mirror gloss. The ornament takes its thin gold rim and its chain last; the wood slice is paired with its easel; a panel is finished ready to hang on a single screw.

  7. The box

Each piece is packed in crinkle paper and sent tracked end to end, to your address or straight to the person it is for. Your photograph, used only to draw the design, is deleted when the order closes.

What is a Glazera piece made of?

Resin, pigment, glitter, pearl and gold leaf, and for the wood slices a real tree round and paint. The resin goes on as a liquid and cures glass-hard; everything else is laid into it or under it.

  • Glitter resin panel: glitter and gold leaf in marbled, tinted resin, under a portrait in layers of tinted resin.
  • Pearlescent resin panel: a mother-of-pearl or an iridescent opal ground, under the same layered portrait.
  • Resin ornament: tinted resin set in a 10 cm round, the portrait domed under clear resin, inside a thin gold rim on a chain.
  • Resin wood slice: a real tree slice, sanded, bark edge on, the portrait painted onto the grain and poured over.

We do not name the resin by its chemistry here; what matters is what it does: it is tinted in layers, flooded clear, and it cures glass-hard.

Why is it poured in layers?

So that the colour sits inside the piece rather than on top of it. A portrait painted on a surface is only ever on the surface; a portrait built up in layers of tinted resin has depth, and the glitter or the pearl under it shows through the paler passages.

It is also why the light moves through a panel rather than off it, and why the eyes go on last: they are the top of the portrait and the first thing anyone looks for. The layers are the slow part of the making, which the lead-time guide sets out.

How do I look after it?

Dust it with a soft dry cloth and lift a mark with a damp one. No glass cleaner and no solvents, which cloud the gloss, and a wall out of hours of strong direct sun, which yellows any resin in time.

The same rules cover the panel, the ornament and the wood slice, because all three are sealed under the same clear flood. The care guide goes through each.

How is it packed and sent?

In a box of crinkle paper, tracked end to end, to any address you give at checkout. Ornaments reach most addresses in two and a half to four weeks; panels and wood slices in about five. Your own delivery window appears before any payment.

Shipping, and any duties, are worked out at checkout before you pay. Every sale goes through Tedooo's checkout, and each piece is poured for one person and one wall, so returns are not possible: the design you approved is the one that arrives.

What is not in it?

No print, no machine and no glass. Nothing is printed: the portrait is tinted resin or paint, by hand. A machine has never touched the resin. And although the surface is polished to look like glass, it is cured resin, which is why it wants a damp cloth rather than a glass cleaner.

Nor is your photograph in it, or anywhere else: its single purpose is the drawing of your piece; it is never sold, never shown, never used for training, and it is wiped once the order is complete. For how the design is drawn and what photograph to send, see the photo guide and the create page.

Questions this leaves

Is the gold leaf real gold leaf?

We call it gold leaf, and it is laid beside the glitter as the glitter panel's ground, under the portrait and sealed inside the piece. If its exact composition matters to you, write to us before you order and we will answer plainly.

What wood are the slices?

A real tree slice, sanded to the grain with the bark edge left on; we do not name the species here. Each slice is its own shape, as a tree round is. Write to us if the wood itself matters for where it is going.

How thick is the clear flood, and how long does it cure?

We publish neither figure. The flood is one clear pour over the whole piece, left to cure glass-hard before it is polished, and it is the slowest stage. What we do publish is the door-to-door time: 32–36 days for a panel or a wood slice, 18–25 for an ornament.

Does the ornament hang on a ribbon or a chain?

A chain, fitted at the studio along with the thin gold rim. It is in the box with the ornament, and the ornament hangs from it on the tree, in a window or from a cabinet knob.
